FIFA 22 introduces a new kind of Control Rope, which can be controlled with normal human fingers as well as a controller. The Control Rope can be placed on the ground when a player is carrying the ball or pressing the ball, and it can be used to indicate where the player with the ball wants to pass. FIFA 22 introduces X-Factor, a system that rewards player behavior with positive, negative or no effect on a player’s performance in-game. Players can now earn X-Factor points from being efficient at scoring, limiting scoring, limiting defenders’ involvement or creating and scoring chances. FIFA 22 introduces new tactics such as the short pass, the long pass, the pounce and the long pass in addition to the movement patterns introduced in the game. FIFA 22 introduces pressing during set pieces to reduce the amount of time players have to wait after being kicked off the ball. This in turn enables players to immediately engage in the attack and create more scoring opportunities. FIFA 22 introduces a new set of AI behaviors, specifically designed to improve the overall play of the game. AI teammates now intelligently switch into defensive positions to guard their space and support their teammates and are more capable of being teammates. AI-controlled teammates can now imitate their actual teammates’ dribbling runs during the run in and while performing defensive runs on the press. FIFA 22 introduces a new ‘Control your Opponent’ (COMO) system, which allows players to change the AI-controlled opponent’s behavior in big moments. This includes making changes in tactics, like moving the AI controlled opponent to a new location, or making changes to the opponent’s formation. The new COMO system is activated by pressing any of the Pre-Shoot buttons when the following conditions are met: • The action button is held down and on screen is either the goalkeeper, defender, midfielder or forward • The ‘Goalkeeper_Pass_COMO’ variable has been set to ‘3’ • The balls are in play In addition, FIFA 22 introduces a new ‘PASS_AS_DEFENSIBLE’ variable. When set to ‘On’, passing actions will be more likely to result in the opposition player being intercepted by the defensive line.
