Sound of Traffic allows you to detect the traffic sent/received over a network device and write out midi notes to accompany that traffic. Although the instrumentation in Sound of Traffic is not the most sophisticated, the midi notes played can be use to represent the traffic. For example, network traffic sent between source A and destination B can be represented by a trill for notes on a 1/2 mchord (or any other suitable instrument, such as a trille). Of course this would mean that the notes generated would be highly variable, so perhaps you would only choose to use it to “score” network traffic, or as an additional analysis tool.

Any port in the system can be assigned a particular instrument. This is not always necessary, but may make it easier to analyse the data.

Every port can have an event (aka hit) logged. These are fired every time that a packet on the port is detected. The event consists of the source/destination address, port number and port number of the packet.
