Elden Ring was announced last March, and when the game made it’s Tokyo Game Show 2012 debut we were told it’d be released in 2013. Sooo, it’s out now, and it’s two things I really love. First, it has a massive world that is amazingly huge. Even though I’m using a laptop to play on the train, the screen size is sufficient to view everything. The game even has a guide to show where everything is. The real charm is that it’s a massive world that you’re free to explore as you wish. Even the marketplace, where you’re supposed to get your quests, is huge, allowing you to see everything before picking a quest. That’s a real treat. Of course, traveling in the world doesn’t actually let you do much. This is a fantasy world, after all, and things such as flying are not really something you can do in this world. The player characters are limited to walking, and because this is a role-playing game, they do get to see everything by walking around. Unfortunately, the inventory is a real pain, and I’ve been drowning in clutter. While the game has an inventory management system that keeps track of which objects you have, the UI just doesn’t let you use it without making it confusing. The UI, however, is one of the more pleasant parts about the game. The interface is clean and attractive, and the game also looks good. I wish I could see more of the game from the front, since it looks very interesting and different from most role-playing games. The game also has a huge amount of content, which is surprising. In fact, the game is missing on a couple of things that most role-playing games have, namely, more character customization. For example, there’s no hairstyles for the girls, and even a dragon-rider outfit that the NPCs wear has none of the customization that you have in Dragon Quest VII. Even if the game has little in the way of player customization, the NPCs are still great and offer a huge amount of fun interactions.
