Zombies. You know the deal. They’re probably gonna try and eat you and all your cool stuff, if they don’t get you first. So why not send someone out to stop ’em, right? Wrong. I did that. And honestly, the only ‘bad’ thing about the machine is that if you screw up it takes 3 tries to deactivate and it drains your energy. So don’t screw up. You got that. You got it? Good. Your mission is simple, you have been sent from the future to destroy the zombie threat. Its twofold, you must destroy the enemy core before they send any more robots to do their evil bidding. So get your hat on and say your prayers, because the machine is ready to go, and to make sure you don’t get eaten on your way to the next level, here are some tips: Use your Weapons Wisely! By that I mean, keep your hand off the trigger until you’re up to the finishing blow. The better you shoot, the higher your score. Don’t go close to the zombie, or you’ll get punched. Don’t dash into the wall, you’ll just get beat up and forced to start over. Don’t get caught in the sunlight, you’ll get knocked of your mech and have to start over. Oh dear…
Back to the drawing board and thinking about what went wrong with this quilt. After my inspection of the manufacturer’s suggestion that I trim the edge with a rotary cutter, then I inserted the strips of fabric into the quilt sandwich and merged them together, I discovered that I had cut the strips 1/4 inch wide and I had not rotated them to be parallel to each other when trimming the strips so as to get strips that would interlock. This was of course my error, and it has resulted in the issues with the white splitting and the black tears.
Here is another view of the layer with the black looks different. It is splitted. And as seen with the quilt in the top picture, all the white patches are now showing. Even though the white should only show on the background layer, I wanted to take a closer look at it so it was time to rip out the lovely layers of batting that covered it. I ended up with a neat, symmetrical quilt that is also a little bit improved, so this is a good kind of mess! 😉
I don’t know if this was my rotary cutter issue or due to my pressing the layers before trimming, but I do need to make sure I don’t handle the fabrics that way in the future. I have had this realtor for 5 years and I got her to decide to teach me to quilt for a couple of years. That has been a lot of fun for both of us. But I don’t feel completely good about the back of this quilt. This kind of problem can be fixed. But unless it is an honest mistake that has been missed prior to quilting, it all could have been prevented.
But I can assure you that at no time did my hands ever touch the fabric. After 15 years of finishing quilts, my husband is always reminding me of that. 😀
Oh, you could try just putting the batting back on and quilting through it to see what happens. That might help you get a better idea of where the problem is. Be careful with it because if the black and white look like that, you’d definitely need to cut it up again and make another quilt out of it!
