Seekers Aeterna is an action-RPG set in a hand-drawn world with a unique graphics style. It was made and designed by one person, with the help of a single programmer, and as a self-published indie game. Seekers Aeterna takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, set in a singular universe that connects the lands of several worlds. The story unfolds in a convoluted and surreal landscape that preserves some of the most important aspects of the RPG genre, while it adds new elements to the mix. Every character interacts with the world through the player’s actions, so it’s up to you to decide how this world gets to shape itself. In addition to the main story, there are free-roaming side-quest and even bosses to challenge. If you decide to pursue them, you’ll end up in a different story depending on your choices and actions. The playable character is a man named Greg. He finds a mysterious girl after he dies and meets her, and she encourages him to search for the mysterious “way” that will eventually lead to his death. As a whole, the game is a culmination of both my love for video games and my personal writing process of reflection and storytelling, making a final product of great depth and originality. It’s about being in the story, taking part in the events and deciding what will happen. Each decision helps shape the way the story unfolds, so the player’s choices are everything. From such perspective, the game is far from a mere collection of options and a predictable storyline. The story is not just a bunch of text either, but a journey accompanied by several items and a cast of colorful characters. Some of the characters don’t even talk, except for a very few situations. The others simply share their thoughts through their actions and reactions. Furthermore, there are multiple endings depending on your decisions. I designed the visual style and the in-game scenarios. The mechanic systems are all designed and implemented by myself. The soundtrack has been created by Mads J. Gundlach.
