Installation of the program:
The Boot BMP Changer application is a small self-extracting executable and it can be installed in the following ways:
Download the application from your web browser (e.g. www.bootbmpchanger.com) and save the archive to a convenient location on your hard disk.
Run the application directly from the archive (remove the files to be installed from the archive).
Change the default (default) entry in the boot.ini file.
A user can also add any additional bitmaps they want to be able to use, and just point the program to the location on their hard disk that the bitmaps are stored.
In the images below you will see how to change the default animation in Windows XP to a different static bitmap. A default bitmap is included in the archive that you can use to see how the program works.
The images above show how to change the Windows loading screen to different bitmaps. The first image is the Windows default boot image and the second image is a static bitmap file that you can use to replace the default boot image. You must know the path to the file you want to use, which is normally the same as the path where the Windows XP installation file is located. Windows XP installation file can be found in the archive if you have already installed Windows XP.
In the images below you will see how to add a new bitmap to the list of available bitmaps. Just click on the “Browse” button and point to the location on your hard disk that you want the new bitmap to be stored.

The bitmaps that can be used must be 640 x 480 pixels and 16 colours only.
The application will check the current boot.ini file to see what flags have been added, and then it will add the flags you have added to the file. Once you have added the flags, press the Re-Save option to save the changes.
The program will search your boot.ini file for BMP flags and flags to the current directory. The flags can be added with the BMPCHANGE.COM and BMPCHANGE.COM/DC flags to copy bitmaps to the directory that is specified and then to the boot.ini file. The BMPCHANGE.COM/DC is used to copy directories or any file to the boot.ini file in the WINDOWS directory.
The BMPCHANGE.COM/DC flag is used to copy bitmaps to the boot.ini file in the WINDOWS directory. The application does not copy a specific file in the directory, but rather copies the directory which is specified in the BMPCHANGE.COM flag to the boot.ini file in the WINDOWS directory.
You can only copy a single directory to the boot.ini file or you will get a message stating that you can only have one. The BMPCHANGE.COM/DC flag is used to copy any directory in the directory to the boot.ini file in the WINDOWS directory.
The application will search through the directory specified by the BMPCHANGE.COM/DC flag to find any bitmaps or directories in the specified directory and then copy the contents to the boot.ini file.
If you have any files or directories in the specified directory, they will be copied to the boot.ini file. If there are no files or directories in the directory that is specified, the directory will be copied to the boot.ini file.
The BMPCHANGE.COM/DC flag will search through the specified directory, and copy any file in the directory to the boot.ini file in the WINDOWS directory. If there are no files or directories in the directory, the directory will be copied to the boot.ini file.
There is also a RESCOUNT option. The RESCOUNT flag is used to reset the count of the boot.ini files that have been changed. By default, the application will reset the number to zero when it copies a file to the boot.ini file.
