I already know the answers to the questions you asked.
I would just like to share the bugs I found that I believe should be fixed for the next release.
The reason is that you are using version 5.1.1.4 for quite some time and I had to dig around in EMS (a prerelease) to find them.
You don’t say what was the reason you use an old version of EMS.
I do not have an x86-64 system but rather a 64bit x86 system.
You can run a 64bit test-version of EMS SQL Management Studio for PostgreSQL.
If you use the 64bit version of EMS SQL Management Studio for PostgreSQL the connection strings will be “dynamic” and not shown in the GUI.
It is easier to set the host, database user and password in the respective config file of the installer. (com.emsdata.installer.database-config)
There is some kind of “magic” going on with the autocommit setting. In the GUI it is on “automatic” but when you type “set auto_commit” it seems to be off. There is a known issue with the GUI here.
When you edit the text of a GRANT statement you have to use the edit menu and not only pressing enter. This should be set in the GUI.
In my tests I also noticed some problems with the GUI which I will note down for the next release.
I believe that this is the set of bugs.
BTW: if you install an older version of EMS and things go wrong with the newer version you are stuck. Any error that is shown is going to be user friendly and will not show the message:
“You need to have version 4.0.0.9 or higher of the EMS SQL Management Studio for PostgreSQL.
This version of EMS is too old for this version of EMS SQL Management Studio for PostgreSQL.”
So if you have an error like this you cannot upgrade EMS.
