This add-in is designed to decode Apple Lossless Audio Codec files (.M4A).
Installation:
Copy the alacz.dll file to the foobar2000 plugin directory.
Navigate to Tools > Add-ins > Plugin Add-ins > Windows. Double click on it to launch the foobar2000 window.
Exit and restart foobar2000.
Known issue:
There is an issue with foobar2000 after performing updates with the plugin disabled.
Functions:
Directory size – tells you the size of the file in bytes (or in other units if the units conversion cannot be accomplished).
Play – plays the file if it can.
Delete – deletes the file if foobar2000 can do that.
Installation process:
All I can remember about this is that the compilation process was just too lengthy for me, so I used the provided.DLL and.INF file.
Solve the issue
First, I tried downloading all the outdated libraries and running the setup as Administrator. But I was not able to solve the issue. I then went on to install the bar codec 4 library, which, although it solved the issue, I was not really satisfied with it.
I then decided to use the provided DLL which I extracted from the barcodec4 package.
Since the issue was resolved, I can now benefit from my iPod and get rid of the glitch, as well as the clutter that comes with a lot of junk files that I have on my hard drive.

Hello guys,
I want to share with you my first experience with foobar2000. In short it is great to know that you have a product that takes care of decoding your favorite file type.
The first thing I noticed is that the quality of the voice and the silence between songs seems to be stronger and better.
To start I tested the service with Alac music (.m4a files)
After I installed the Service I gave it a try. Alac files looks really good.

Yes, but they (Tascam LA-20/20) are rather scarce. I looked a bit, and there seems to be only one seller for them (and he’s only selling one Tascam LA-20 for about $500, but the seller is famous for them). They sell at a higher price, maybe they’re worth the money, but not to me.
I’ve been looking for them for quite some time, I have found one seller who’s making them in China for around $1000, but the ones he sells all need the input from his LA-20/20 and the quality’s terrible (but the price is good).
I was considering making something similar, I just wouldn’t use a micro usb charger, but instead I would wire it so that it gets it’s power from the input. The issue is that it’s a bit of a pain to find parts like that. I don’t know if these things are too special though, I haven’t really heard of anyone making a converter like that. The difference from what I’m looking to make would be that I’d do a wired power supply instead of usb since they’re safer and easy to source.
That’s a wired power supply, so the output is of course no longer micro usb.
If you want to buy such a cable, it’s for example $3.00 (assuming no VAT) at Mouser.
