Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is a WFRP based RPG, and while it’s the base line the game sets everyone on once they purchase Wizards of the Coast’s new fantasy fare it’s not a requirement to enjoy its little cousin.
If you’re not a WFRP fan, or more worryingly if you’re not too into RPGs in general, then sell your soul to the Dark Powers and skip this one! That’s what I did at first, but after being informed how much I love my little brother’s new RPG I ended up volunteering myself to review!
Briefing
Swords and Soldiers 2 is a war-themed hack n’ slash RPG with all the usual features of the genre; heavily-levelled characters with inventory management, several classes that must be levelled up to use their special abilities, and the re-occurring side-missions to earn loot. Unlike many RPGs, however, this one comes with a very interesting twist, starting from the beginning of the game as a few wise-old men sparring with each other.
You and your friends play as one of four old men, all of whom are part of a Grand Alliance formed to stop the foolish King who sends too many soldiers into battle. Your apprentices consist of three virtual brawlers, which range from a solitary fighter to a party of barbarians; not only can the master you train fight for yourself but you can and will have for hire to fight for you against other parties of free peasants.
My last year of the English Intermediate teaching apprenticeship didn’t end well; we had a group of fourteen students at the time, and one of them ‘raped’ me in front of all the others. It was a joke, but as I was caught by the neck by my own headmaster it was the last straw. College swept me up and sent me to the dimly-lit room called ‘The Dungeon’. Wherever that is.

Ravenfield is a fast-paced, close combat simulation developed by Steel Raven7. It is best described as an ode to vehicular warfare, like DoD: Strike Force, Fire Warrior or Unreal Tournament. In the game, you control two different classes of infantry and vehicles. You will fight against eight other players (spectators) in eight different battles. You can use each map as a training or as a hardcore game depending on the situation you are facing. You will choose from a variety of weapons and equipment, and use the majority of your techniques to win your battles. It is all about teamwork and communication, not just a lone wolf approach. You will have to think through your choices carefully as you will have no armory support (Like a workshop in DoD 2 or Unreal Tournament). You will still have the option to repair your vehicles, but if you lose all the parts, you will have to start again. The game was meant to be multiplayer only, but we decided to make it single-player in an effort to promote the game’s community support and open a dialogue with our community. Some Improvements 1. New deployable items Development Log: Our development of Ravenfield began in February 2011 with a group of four brothers (Ryan, Tim, Ben and Joe) who are avid gamers and admirers of Steel Raven 7. These four brothers enlisted the help of Justin, Josh, and Mario, who then shared their ideas and feedback with the group. With their help, we began brainstorming and planning for the creation of Ravenfield. Frayed Web was put together to create a beta of our first multiplayer map, and the map was then tested thoroughly. We started on the engine testing, and soon after the first video of the game was shot. We went through many server issues, but with the help of our community we were able to fix and work out the issues. We saw that Ravenfield was much more fun in multiplayer than in single player mode, and this drove us to make a project to finish and maintain multiplayer support for Ravenfield.
